ARCA Consumer Advisory Committee            

The ARCA Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) is made up of people with developmental disabilities (consumers) from 19 of the 21 California regional centers.

 

 

Purpose:
The purpose of the committee is to advise the ARCA Board of Directors on statewide issues that are important to consumers.

 

Topics Currently Under Discussion:
--  Emergency preparedness & response
--  Self-Directed Services
--  Leadership
--  Affordable housing
--  A mentoring program pairing older consumers with younger ones
--  Improving transportation services
--  The implementation of SB 1270

Tips on what to do in case of an emergency:
  1. Always keep important phone numbers with you.
  2. Ask a neighbor to check on you in case there is an emergency, such as an earthquake.
  3. Be prepared for 1 week of survival in case of an emergency.

Here is a list of the basic supplies you should have in your emergency kits:

  1. Water ( 1 gallon per person, per day, for at least 3 days.)
  2. Food (at least a 3-day supply including a can opener)
  3. Battery-powered radio with extra batteries
  4. Flashlight with extra batteries
  5. First aid kit
  6. A whistle to signal for help
  7. Dust mask
  8. Plastic sheeting and duct tape for a temporary shelter
  9. Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  10. A wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  11. Local maps
  12. Pet food, extra water, and supplies for your pet or service animal
